KITTY HAWK (USA), Dec 16: The United States will celebrate on Wednesday the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first flight, a seminal event that helped the country lay its claim to being the technological superpower.

Weather permitting, a replica of the “Flyer” will stage a re-enactment of the brothers’ feat at Kitty Hawk beach in North Carolina at 10:35 am on Wednesday.

The original flight by Orville Wright on December 17, 1903 lasted only 12 seconds. The brothers estimated that he reached an altitude of 36 meters.—AFP
