FAISALABAD, Dec 15: Hundreds of students of the National Textile University staged a protest demonstration in front of the dean offices on the sixth consecutive day on Monday and vowed to continue their agitation till the acceptance of demands.

The students carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands staged a sit-in in front of the dean offices. They chanted slogans against the university administration for what they claimed closing down the campus to stop their voice.

They announced that they would block the main Sheikhupura Road if their demands were not accepted by the authorities concerned within 24 hours.

They said the university affairs were being run against the interest of students and just to collect money. The increase in number of seats was a decision of Aptma men who were trying to convert this educational institution into a profit-earning company, they said.

They urged President Musharraf to direct the authorities concerned to take control of the NTU.

SHOT DEAD: Dacoits shot dead a truck-driver, injured three other people and looted cash, gold ornaments and two motorcycles in nine strikes during the last 24 hours.

Highwaymen shot dead driver Inayatullah when he resisted their dacoity attempt near Thikriwala on the Faisalabad-Jhang Road.

Three masked dacoits snatched cash and a gold-chain from a councillor, Mohammad Shafiq, in Chak 197-RB. The outlaws also injured him with a sharp-edged weapon on resistance.

Mushtaq and his son, Riaz, were stabbed and injured by dacoits on resistance in Anwarabad, Jaranwala tehsil.

Dacoits took away cosmetics, household articles and grocery worth Rs1.4 million from the godown of Saleem in Shadab Colony on Jhang Road.

Two bandits snatched cash and valuables from Malik Asif in Mansoorabad.

Armed men looted Rs4,000 in cash and gold ornaments from Rashid and his wife when they were on their way home after attending a marriage party in Haseen Shaheed Colony.

Two outlaws snatched cash, a wristwatch and a cellular phone from Bashir in Mustafabad.

A student, Naveed, was deprived of motorcycle by three highwaymen in Gulfishan Colony.

Three armed men snatched motorcycle from Akram in Chak 67-JB, Thikriwala.
