KARACHI, Dec 13: A racket of human smuggling involving personnel of the FIA’s immigration wing was unearthed on Saturday by the FIA Passport Circle.

One of the agency’s constables, deployed at the departure lounge, was arrested along with two other suspected human smugglers.

The officials said that some more FIA immigration officials were expected to be arrested shortly as the arrested constable, Wahid Ali, disclosed their direct involvement in the racket.

They said the racket was involved in sending people to Saudi Arabia on fake employment and visit visas. “The racket smuggled 50 people to Saudi Arabia in the past 40 days alone”, the officials said.

They said the other two suspects were identified as Rizwan Ali and Roohal Ameen.

The officials said the human smugglers paid Rs30,000 each for the immigration of Saudia-bound illegal job seekers on fake visas.

The officials said the agency headquarters took strong notice of the alleged involvement of the immigration staff in human smuggling. Deputy director of the Passport Circle, Mohammed Malick, has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the racket.

The officials said that the suspected human smugglers, including the FIA constable, were booked under the Immigration Ordinance, 1979, and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

A raiding party arrested Rizwan Ali and seized nine passports, which contained fake Saudi visas.
