FPW Winter/Festive gives a nod to noir

KARACHI: The three-day Winter/Festive chapter of Fashion Pakistan Week kicked off at a local hotel marquee on Sunday night. During its span, the fashion week will showcase designs by 19 designers as well as a conceptual theme show.

Leading menswear designer Amir Adnan opened Day 1 with a collection titled The Way Forward in which he put forth on the ramp minimalist trends and designs for the modern man. Open-cut jackets and sherwanis featured here in basic black with influences of black patterns and self-embroidery with minimal bling. Digital reptile and marble prints with horizontal patterns summed up the collection where the mood remained essentially noir.

Maheen Karim showed digital luxe prints in essentially western wear and beige heavily embellished tops with hints of velvet.

Cuts and fine weaving defined Mona Imran’s full-on bling collection which featured Sajjal Ali in a showstopper outfit towards the end.

Sobia Nazir chose to showcase baroque detailing and voluminous silhouettes seeped in elegance with The Forbidden Land. The western wear showcased red on red with prints fused with embroidery and outfits in black and red.

Mirroring the time and personality of Turkish royals in the upcoming play Koser Sultan, Urdu 1 featured a segment based on the style acumen of Shamaeel Ansari and Amir Adnan for women’s wear and menswear in vintage-inspired creations. The capsule collection featured splendid garbs and styling that spoke of Turkish style and design aesthetics. The mood was further driven home by jewellery designer and style visionary Nazneen Tariq’s elaborate trinkets.

Family history and heirlooms with variations of ethnic embroideries and cutwork pearl and jewel-encrusted elements featured in the segment titled Suffuse by Sana Yasir.

Jeem by Hamza Bokhari chose to show influences from long-forgotten Persian arts with Naurooz in brocades, velvets and hand-loomed nets with miniature motifs.

HSY ended Day 1 with Onyx inspired by the designer’s vision of a ‘superwoman’. The palette remained almost entirely black with liberal use of textured fabrics, quilting and weaving detailing in organza, leather, woven fabrics and triple georgette.

Day Two will feature designs by Shehla Chatoor, FnkAsia by Huma Adnan, HEM, Arsalan Iqbal, Natasha Kamal and Deepak Perwani.

Day Three will host Nida Azwer, Saira Rizwan, Deepak n Fahad, Republic Women’s Wear, Rozina Munib and finally Nauman Arfeen.

The hair and make-up on all the days in by the creative team at NPro and N-Gents with choreography by HSY.
