GUJRANWALA, Dec 9: Lunda Bazaar shopkeepers whose makeshift shops were burnt due to a fire have submitted loss claims worth Rs19.1 million to the district government.
Some 234 shopkeepers submitted their claims on Tuesday to the district coordination officer and appealed that the compensation cheques should be given to them at the earliest so that they could start their business.
About 400 shops of Lunda Bazaar were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out there a few days ago.
District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha had assured the shopkeepers that the district government would compensate them after calculating their loss.
RE-ELECTION: As many 33 members of Sadar Tehsil Council have demanded that executive powers of the Tehsil Nazim should be forfeited besides holding fresh poll as a majority of the house has already passed a no-trust move against him.
Speaking at a meeting held here on Tuesday, an opposition leader of the Sadar tehsil council, Chaudhry Adnan Balagan said that some aides of Nazim Mubasher Ahmad Cheema had tried to strike a deal with them but they rejected their offer.
Meanwhile, the bail application of a union council nazim was rejected by a local court in a criminal case whereas his father was remanded for two days on Tuesday.
UC 115 Nazim Afzaal Ahmad is involved in a murder case. When the court rejected his interim bail on Tuesday, police arrested him.
