HYDERABAD, Dec 9: The district coordination officer, Hyderabad, Mohammad Hussain Syed, has said that the district government has requested the provincial government to transfer the surplus staff of the former Bureau of Supply and Price Control to it to control the prices of goods and improve the market system.

He was presiding over a meeting of the officials of the Community Development Department held here on Monday.

He said the staff will be placed at the disposal of the EDO, Community Development, to check the increase in the prices of consumer goods.

He directed the officials of the community development department which comprises social welfare, labour, sports and cooperative societies to work for the welfare of the society which was the basic duty of the department.

He pointed out that poverty was the main problem which needed to be resolved with the cooperation of the local social welfare organizations by imparting training to the social workers.

He said it was of paramount importance that local people were involved in all development schemes.

Mr Syed said that the district government has allocated Rs300,000 each for the rehabilitation of women in Darul Aman as well as for the education of children living in Darul Atfaal.

He said an amount of Rs200,000 has been allocated for the Social Economic Centre for the training of poor women during their free time, and added that Rs300,000 has also been approved for the rehabilitation of disabled children.

He directed the officials of the social welfare department to protect and take care of the poor women and ensure better education for children and training for disabled children.

He said that the officials should also make efforts to secure jobs for disabled persons as per the fixed quota of two per cent.

He said the officials of the labour department should protect the rights of disabled persons working in the factories and exhorted the officials of the cooperative societies to encourage the establishment of cooperative societies for the development of agriculture and welfare of women.

He urged the officials of the sports department to appoint sports committees throughout the district for the promotion of sports.

Earlier, the EDO, Community Development Department, Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi, briefed the meeting about the working and performance of the department.
