HYDERABAD: The 116th birth anniversary of prominent peasant leader Comrade Hyder Bux Jatoi who devoted his life to the betterment of the downtrodden class was observed here on Saturday.

Sindh Hari Committee chairman Comrade Azhar Jatoi cut the cake at late Jatoi’s residence lovingly referred to as Baba-e-Sindh House by the peasants.

Azhar Jatoi said that his father was a leader of the poor and the downtrodden who struggled for their rights and motherland throughout his life. Several MPhils and PhDs had been done on Jatoi’s life and struggle, he added.

He said that his father had fought Sindh’s case on international level and it was something which had no parallel in history.

Meanwhile, Sindh National Tehreek (STN) organised fateha for those who were killed in Karachi on Oct 1, 1988, in response to carnage in Hyderabad on Sept 30, 1988, to pit Sindhis against Urdu speaking communities in the province.

STN chairman Ashraf Noonari said that Sept 30, 1988, Pucca Qila carnage in Hyderabad was orchestrated under a planned conspiracy. Sindhi nationalists were wrongly blamed for Hyderabad carnage, he said.
