SUKKUR, Dec 8: The National Accountability Bureau on Monday arrested at least 20 people in raids from Sukkur, Moro, Khairpur, Gambat and Ghotki on charges of large-scale bungling and corruption during the construction of the Shadi Shaheed Campus at the Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur.
Those arrested include Project Director A. K. Alvi, K. K. Memon, Chaudhry Afzal, Abdul Razzak Shaikh, and Zubair Ahmed.
All of them are being kept in police lockup and are expected to be taken to Karachi for further investigation.
The former vice chancellors of the University, R. A. Shah, Hameed Sindhi and Dr Mohammad Ibrahim, its registrars and accounts officers have also been charged. However, it could not be ascertained whether they were also arrested.
The campus building was built eight years back but it could not be completed as cracks appeared in the structure because of substandard material being used.
