ISLAMABAD, Dec 6: The Al Qaeda and Taliban Sanctions Committee of the United Nations has lauded Pakistan’s contribution in the war on terrorism and appreciated it for its consistent cooperation with the committee.
In a meeting at the foreign office here on Saturday, the committee led by its chairman Heraldo Munoz, Ambassador of Chile to the United Nations, acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution in the war on terrorism and conveyed the UN’s deep appreciation for Pakistan’s consistent cooperation with the committee.
He said the committee, after its visit to Pakistan, had a better understanding of the government policies and priorities as well as implementation procedures.
Members of the committee were received by Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokar at the Foreign Office.
Earlier, the delegation was given a detailed briefing at the ministry of foreign affairs.
The Pakistan side was led by Additional Secretary (UN&EC) Tariq Osman Hyder and also included representatives from various ministries and departments.
The Pakistan side highlighted Islamabad’s role in the global campaign against terrorism and the legislative, administrative and security measures taken by Islamabad in this regard.
The delegation during their visit called on the foreign minister, the interior minister and the finance minister on Friday.
The delegation earlier visited Belgium, Liechtenstein and Italy and left for Saudi Arabia on the last leg of their visit.—APP
