BAHAWALPUR, Dec 6: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal will not give a vote of confidence to Gen Pervez Musharraf.
This was stated by Jamaat-i-Islami’s Punjab Amir and MMA deputy secretary-general Liquat Baloch on Saturday. He was speaking at an Eid Milan party of the JI here.
He said the government wanted that the MMA should give a vote of confidence to the president but “any individual can not be given powers to tarnish the Constitution.”
He said that out of the 29 issues, 22 had been resolved as a result of talks with the government. The remaining issues related to president’s uniform, Security Council, judges age, district government and enforcement of the police act.
He said that the president had shown willingness to take off his military uniform by December 2004. He criticized the government for entertaining its favourite ‘mullahs and maulvis’ at the president’s house.
Liaquat Baloch said that MMA’s Dec 18 deadline was final after which a movement against the government will be launched if the remaining issues were not resolved.
The participants in the party alleged through a resolution that the educational atmosphere in the Islamia University was being disturbed as its administration was partial.
The resolution demanded release of all arrested IJT students.
