PESHAWAR, Dec 5: The revenue generating agencies and departments of the provincial government have been asked to improve the recovery of receipts to ensure the achievement of their target for the current financial year, according to sources.

The instructions have recently been issued after a majority of the departments concerned failed to raise the revenue they were supposed to collect on proportionate basis during the first three months of the year.

Of the Rs3.75 billion annual target of the province’s own receipts, the departments

concerned and revenue generating agencies raised around Rs815 million, recording a shortfall of Rs120 million in comparison with the target for the quarter.

No other department of the provincial government except the Board of  Revenue and the education department met the proportionate target.

Sources said the provincial government was required to raise over 60 per cent of the annual target of the receipts during the second half of the fiscal year.

The excise and taxation department missed the target for the quarter of Rs270 million by over Rs65 million, the irrigation department missed the Rs152 million target by about Rs100 million, the home and tribal  affairs department missed the Rs61 million target by about Rs20 million, the works and services department missed its Rs46 million target by over Rs10 million, the agriculture department missed the Rs27 million target by  Rs10 million, the health department missed the Rs37 million target by Rs5 million, the forests department missed the Rs113 million target by Rs11 million and the industries department missed the Rs50 million target by about Rs10 million.

“The heads of all the departments and agencies concerned have been  directed to ensure an improvement in recoveries for the achievement of  the annual target,” said a government functionary.
