PESHAWAR, Dec 4: Criticizing the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal for failing to honour its public commitments, Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) leader Sikandar Hayat Sherpao on Thursday described the one-year performance of the NWFP government as a the worst example of bad governance.
Speaking at a press conference, he said the MMA had sought votes on the promise to enforce Shariat in the province but its government had failed to implement Islamic laws despite having passed the Shariat Bill about six months ago.
The MPA from Charsadda alleged that in contradiction to its claim of having enforced merit and fairplay, the MMA government had violated the principles and promoted junior officers.
He accused the MMA of duplicity and said that while its parliamentarians had done nothing except thumping desks in the National Assembly in opposition to the Legal Framework Order, the provincial government had invited the uniformed president.
He said the MMA’s opposition to the LFO in the centre was an eyewash as the provincial government was functioning under the same law.
He said the provincial government talked of austerity but its ministers used more than one car and lived in expensive bungalows.
Mr Sherpao said the NWFP Assembly had unanimously voted for the Shariat Bill but members of the province cabinet had not made their lives subservient to Shariat.
“The prices of essential commodities have reached new heights but no one is taking any action in this regard.
He said the claims of introduction of free primary education had proved to be mere rhetoric and the healthcare system had gone from bad to worse.
He alleged that unelected people were running the government.
