DADU, Dec 3: A large number of residents of Laung Chohan and Karam Ali Chandio villages staged a protest demonstration against the police raid on their villages on Wednesday.
Speaking outside the press club one of the villagers, Sahib Khan, said the Jhallo police raided their villages and threatened them to shift 150 houses and vacate 200 acres land in Kutcha area.
He alleged sub-inspector Nisar Ahmed told villagers that the DPO operation wanted to cultivate the land and all the villagers should vacate the area, otherwise, fake FIRs would be registered against them.
Another villager, Din Mohammad, said when they refused to vacate houses and lands, police subjected women and children to torture, resulting in injuries to two women, Zainab and Soni, and children, Sarang, Bilawal, Ghani and Farooq.
Haji Gul Hassan said when villagers offered resistance, the police fired into the air and arrested Ali Sher, Bashir and Ranjhan.
Mir Sikandar said 200 acres land belonged to the forest department and more than 50 villagers were cultivating this land for generations and paying tax to the forest department.
He alleged a police official wanted to occupy their lands in the name of DPO (operation). He appealed to the higher authorities of police department to provide them justice.
Divisional forest officer Anwar Baloch said he had not made any complaint to police and was unaware of the incident.
The police said villages were raided to arrest some criminals, but as they entered some houses, the villagers started firing on police.
ACCIDENT: A passenger was killed and nine others injured in a road accident near Dadu town when a passenger coach hit a wagon on Wednesday.
A Khairpur Nathan Shah-bound passenger wagon when reached near the Bhittai Petroleum service, a passenger coach hit it from behind as a result of which both the vehicles overturned.
A woman, Qaim Khatoon Meno, 20, died on the spot and nine others namely Ameeran, Sughar, Papoo, Ayaz, Nisar, Mohammad Ali, Qurban, Ahmed Ali and Mohammad Ali received injuries, who were admitted to the civil hospital Dadu.
DEMO: A large number of residents of Bhan Saeedabad town staged a protest demonstration outside the press club on Wednesday against Hesco officials of the Sehwan sub-division.
They brunt old tyres and blocked the Indus Highway for one hour. They were protesting against the disconnection of electric supply to some residents despite payment of bills.
KILLED: Mohammad Urs Mallah was killed after being run over by a Sehwan-bound passenger coach (SI-4654) on the Indus Highway near the Garhi Wari village on Monday.
