Two DawnNews employees injured in attack

KARACHI: Two employees of DawnNews were injured in an armed attack here on Wednesday.

According to officials, two men on a motorcycle stopped the channel’s car in the Landhi-89 area and asked the employees to hand over their valuables. “But before they could pull out their wallets and mobile phones, one of the assailants fired multiple shots and sped away without taking any money,” said a police official.

The firing left the channel’s transport supervisor Hakim Khan and driver Yousuf Khan injured. They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where Hakim was stated to be in a critical condition.

Dr Seemi Jamali, head of the JPMC emergency unit, said Hakim received a bullet wound in his neck and was immediately moved to the operating theatre for surgery. Yousuf was hit in the left leg and was stable, she added.

Meanwhile, police were in a fix over the jurisdiction of the incident. Shah Latif, Quaidabad, Landhi and Sharafi Goth police stations confirmed the incident, but denied that the crime scene was within their jurisdiction.
