KHAIRPUR, Dec 30: Two separate demonstrations were held in Khairpur and Faiz Ganj talukas on Sunday against shortage of irrigation water in Faiz Wah and George Minor.
In taluka Khairpur, the demonstration was held at the tail of Faiz Wah canal of Khairpur west feeder, which was led by Abdul Majeed Arain, district leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (F).
The protest march was attended by the growers of taluka Khairpur.
The protesters said there was no water at the tail of Faiz Wah for the last three months and more than 100 water courses had been affected.
Mr Arain alleged that the modules and regulators had been tampered with by the irrigation staff and the water was provided to the influential.
In Taluka Faiz Ganj, the growers took out a procession against the irrigation officials and observed sit-in near the Pacca Chang press club.
They said there was no irrigation water in the George Minor, due to the negligence of the irrigation staff and the growers were suffering for the last three months.
ELECTRICITY: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) Setharja sub-division, disconnected electricity of more than 20 villages including Mehar Veesar, Ahmedabad, Rasoolabad, Noorabad, Mango Shar and Laghari.
The villagers alleged that due to lack of electricity, there was possibility of thefts in the area.
It was learnt that the Hesco dues were only against a few consumers while the power supply to the whole villages was disconnected to blackmail the villagers and collect illegal funds.
The affected villagers appealed to the Hesco chief to stop this practice.
TI LEADER: Police produced the president of Tehrik-i-Insaf, Gambat, and local trader, Hidayatullah Shaikh, in a local court for remand on Saturday.
The former was sent to Gambat prison as told the court that police was torturing him at police station and appealed to be sent to judicial custody.
Police had arrested him a couple of days ago and registered a case for obstructing in duty for the second time.
ROBBERS: Kot Diji police have arrested two alleged robbers with a motorcycle and a TT pistol in their possession here on Saturday night.
They were identified as Hajan Ali Chang and Mansoor Larik, both residents of Sobhodero.
According to police the accused had snatched a motorbike from a villager on Kumb-Chodaho road.
