SUKKUR, Dec 30: A Jirga in Rohri on Sunday imposed a Rs12-lac fine on the DSP, Rohri, Tahir Noorani, SHO Qalandar Bux Soomro and other policemen for killing a woman, Shadan, and injuring five others.
The Jirga was chaired by Mir Sundar Khan Sundrani.
It said that Rs600,000 fine would be paid to the heirs of Ms Shadan, and the rest would be distributed among the others.
It may be recalled that a police party led by DSP Tahir Noorani went to arrest some outlaws three months ago in Khurram Jagirani village. When they opened fire, a woman, Shadan, was killed and five others were injured.
It led to severe protest by the residents and a murder case was lodged against the SHO, Rohri, the DSP and others.
CONSTABLE ARRESTED: Police arrested a constable, Sadruddin, and recovered an illegal Kalashnikov, three magazines and 60 rounds from his possession on Sunday.
Police sources said that he was arrested on the charge of killing two men, Jaro Khan and Ghulam Mustafa, who were gunned down in Kandhkot three weeks ago by unknown armed men.
Police said that after thorough investigation it was found that Constable Sadruddin was directly involved in the killing of both men which he had done to settle an old score.
THREE KIDNAPPED: Three men Mahers were kidnapped after a clash between the Maher and Jatoi tribes over a fish farm in Chak on Saturday.
After the clash, the Jatois kidnapped Gul Maher, driver Rab Dino, and Raja Napar and drove off into the Katcha area. No case has been registered so far.
The fish farm was being jointly operated by Ibrahim Jatoi and Ghous Bux Maher.
SHOPKEEPER: Some armed men wearing police uniforms kidnapped a shopkeeper, Zubair Pathan, in Moro on Sunday.
The shopkeepers of the area closed their shops in protest and burned tires in front of the Moro police station.
