ISLAMABAD: CBR asked to accept tax return of complainant

ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Justice Saleem Akhtar (retired) has asked the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to accept the tax return of a complainant under self assessment scheme (SAS).

The ombudsman recommended to the income tax commissioner to invoke section 122A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 to cancel the assessment framed on June 30, 2003.

The decision was taken on the complaint of Dr Abdul Waheed Khan of Lahore, who complained against the tax officials for excluding his tax return from the ambit of SAS.

The FTO further said the return filed by the complainant for the year 2001-02, declaring income at Rs275,771, would be accepted under SAS.

The compliance to this office be reported within 30 days of the receipt of this order, he observed.
