MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 30: Indian forces continued intermittent firing from across the Line of Control in some sectors of Kashmir on Sunday, but no major loss was reported from anywhere, officials here said.
They said Indian troops targeted Khuiratta, Nakyal and Tatta Pani sectors in district Kotli in the day and Samahni sector in district Bhimbher.
Officials said though the intensity of cross-border shelling along the LoC had subsided in the past few days, but they feared that it could be a camouflage because of unreliability of the enemy.
In Poonch district, the two worst hit sectors, Abbaspur and Hajira, were quiet for the last four days, which according to deputy commissioner Chaudhry Liaqat Hussain was an unusual thing.
He was of the view that the silence on part of the Indian troops was to avoid being hit in retaliation. They are moving their troops to the forward areas and they may resume once they finish, he said.
Official sources here rejected reports that any “planned evacuation” of the border areas residents was being carried out on account of Indian firing.
They said that some families had temporarily moved to safer areas from the village of Taroti, in Abbaspur sector, when the enemy shelling there became intense on Sunday last. But, now they were returning to their homes, they added.
