ISLAMABAD, Dec 30: Development in the field of science and technology is must for the economic growth of a country.

This was stated by the chairman, National Engineering and Scientific Commission (Nescom), Dr Samar Mubarakmand, while speaking at the closing ceremony of the national workshop on “industrial vacuum” here.

Dr Samar Mubarakmand said indispensability of science and technology for the development of a progressive society needed no explanation. “It provides real foundation on which the dynamics of economic growth is built in a modern society”, he added.

He underlined the importance of a vibrant industrial sector, competent enough to translate the marvels of science into practical utility by employing the latest methods of technological advancements for the benefits of common people. “The progress of a nation depends on how quickly and effectively we acquire new technologies”, he stated. He also underscored the need for a strong interaction amongst research organizations, universities and local industry. He called for more research activities in the country.

Dr Javed Arshad Mirza, the chairman Dr AQ Khan Research Laboratories, speaking on the occasion, said the objective of this workshop was to enable Pakistani scientists and engineers to assess possible utility of vacuum technologies.

Later, shields and certificates were distributed among the participants of the workshop.
