HYDERABAD, Nov 23: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has said to create harmony among the provinces, contentious issues should be resolved at people’s level and not through committees .
In a statement faxed to Dawn here on Sunday, he said water was a very sensitive issue and no technical committee was in a position to resolve it.
Mr Palijo said justice could not be ensured with regard to the water issue by appointing one or two honest persons in the committee set up to resolve the issue.
He demanded the study about the release of water downstream Kotri should be conducted through some reputed international organization, construction of the Thal canal be stopped forthwith, Chashma-Jehlum and Taunsa-Panjnad canals be closed and the Kalabagh dam project be shelved.
The AT chief said the rulers were presenting wrong figures to pave the way for constructing more dams on the River Indus.
He regretted that national institutions and the rulers had always played a partisan role on the water issue and they had been protecting the interests of a particular province.
He said opportunists who had joined hands with what he called anti-Sindh forces would be remembered as traitors.
He said the water issue was very important for Sindh and the people of the province would not forgive those who sided with the government on the issue.
Mr Palijo demanded that the rulers should refrain from taking loans from the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and other agencies for construction of dams and canals.
INSTITUTIONS: The Sindhi Shagird Tehrik has said the government has failed to restore peaceful atmosphere in educational institutions and eliminate terrorism.

Game warden: The game watcher of the Jhangri district, Thatta, Shah Bux Khoso, has accused game warden Malik Changez Khan of resorting to illegal hunting in the Khirthar National Park.
Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday, he said as a result of the hunting, the park, which he claimed was the second biggest wildlife preserve in the country, would be destroyed in a few months.
He said the game warden hunted in the Khirthar park despite there was a ban on hunting in the park.
Mr Khoso said he recently saw the game warden and his friends, Malik Nadir Khan, Abid Khaskheli, Khukho Hamlani and Ehsan Jatoi, were busy hunting birds in the park while riding on a government vehicle (GS-0100).
