SANGHAR, Nov 21: The dispute between farmers organizations and irrigation officials was resolved by the DPO, Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh, on Friday.
More than 100 farmers and about two dozen irrigation officials had gathered in front of the DPO’s office.
Ali Gohar Shah, chairman, Farmers Organizations’ Council, and many other chairmen of farmers organizations represented the farmers, while Mithal Unnar, XEN, Thar division, and all SDOs represented the irrigation staff.
The farmers alleged that the irrigation officials demanded bribes and if it was denied, they closed canals on one pretext or another and sometimes registered false cases.
A committee was also formed which included farmers organizations’ chairman, Gul Sher Rind, Ayub Wassan and two people from the irrigation department. It will decide about rotation and other problems.
After talks in the presence of the DPO, the XEN, Thar division, Mohammad Mithal Unnar, said he will close the Chotiari distributary on Nov 22 at 6am due to the water rotation schedule.
The farmers vowed that they would resist if any attempt was made to close the distributary.
