LAHORE, Nov 19: The University of Health Sciences syndicate on Wednesday stuck to its decision that the affiliation case of the Islamabad Medical and Dental College (IMDC) will be processed only after the submission of a formal report by the university’s affiliation committee.

The decision was taken in the UHS’ emergent syndicate meeting chaired by vice-chancellor Prof Dr Malik Husain Mubashir.

It is learnt that the syndicate said that the IMDC affiliation case was referred back to the affiliation committee and it had not yet submitted its report.

Sources claimed that the affiliation committee had prescribed about 17 observations that had not yet been rectified by the college. They said the affiliation committee would now seek that the college should fulfil all requirements for review.

They said the syndicate also discussed certain irregularities in admissions committed by the Lahore Medical and Dental College (LMDC) and resolved that the university would stick to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council rules and give no relief to any candidate.

It may be mentioned that Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed had also said that the Punjab government would not allow any private medical college to facilitate any ineligible person to continue medical education. He had claimed that the LMDC had admitted even those students who had passed their intermediate examination with arts subjects.

The UHS syndicate, reportedly, also approved the establishment of a faculty lodge on the recently occupied plot behind the university building. The place was earlier being used as a parking stand for patients and their relatives visiting Shaikh Zayed Hospital’s emergency and outpatient departments.
