LAHORE, Nov 19: Police murdered an expatriat near the Township police station on Wednesday.
According to details, expatriat Shamoon Ahmad, 28, a resident of Sector C/1 of Township, was sitting in his car along with a girlfriend when a police patrol came there. He was asked to get off the car. Instead of complying with the policemen’s direction, he sped away. The police patrol chased and opened fire on the car. Bullets hit Shamoon, who died instantly.
His brother Naveed said he studied in Poland and had recently moved to America. He was on a visit to Pakistan.
The policemen were identified as ASI Muhammad Sadiq and constables Yousuf and Aslam. They were charged with murder and arrested under directives from DPO Khwaja Khalid Farooq.
The body was removed to the city mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, two people were gunned down over an old enmity in City Raiwind.
The police said Mushtaq Ahmad, 35, and Imtiaz, alias Bhola, 25, both released from jail in two separate murder cases, were on their way when their car was intercepted by two cars.
At least eight occupants of the two cars got off and opened fire on them. They suffered serious injuries and died on way to hospital.
The police said the attackers belonged to their rival group.
The bodies were removed to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered with no arrest.
ROBBERIES: Robbers plundered cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in many strikes in the city, on Wednesday.
Five robbers looted cash and gold ornaments worth Rs800,000 at a house in Mughalpura.
Muhammad Aslam, the owner of the house, told police that the armed men held up the inmates, beat them up on resistance and took away cash and gold jewellery worth Rs800,000.
Three men burst into Raza Baig’s house at Gulberg’s P-Block from where they took away cash, gold and other valuables worth Rs200,000.
Two armed men entered Tanveer Aslam’s house at Ichhra and took away gold ornaments and cash worth Rs200,000.
In another incident, Saleem told police that two gunmen held him up at his grocery shop at Hanjarwal and took away Rs 15,000 from cash box.
Nadeem was on his way home at Shahdara when two armed men held him up and snatched away Rs20,000. Two motorcycles were driven away at Johar Town and North Cantonment.
ENCOUNTER: A police constable was shot at and injured in an encounter with outlaws at Sattukatla.
Police said their anti car-lifting squad, on identification of an accused, Idrees Ahmad, raided a place in the locality. The house occupants opened fire on the police, which was returned.
Constable Mushtaq Ahmad suffered grievous injuries in the exchange of fire, but the police managed to arrest three of the suspects.
The injured policeman was taken to a hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
A case was registered against the arrested men.
