MULTAN, Nov 18: Around 2,368 employees of the technical wing of the provincial higher education department have applied for discontinuation of their services on deputation with Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority.

In letters to the provincial chief secretary and secretary higher education, the officials reminded that they were deputed to work under Tevta, a subsidiary of the provincial industries department, on July 5, 1999.

According to the appointment and conditions of service rules of the civil servant act, the maximum period of deputation was three years, and on the completion of this term the officials should be asked, “whether they want to repatriate to their parent department or they be absorbed to the borrowing agency/department.”

They said their term of deputation had elapsed by more than a year, but the government had not so far sought their will.

“Through these letters we want to inform the government that we do not want to be absorbed in Tevta, and instead want to be repatriated to our parent department under the finance department’s letter No. FD.SR-II-6-13/97, of Oct 15, 2002.”

Among those who have applied, around 1,082 belong to technical education, 94 to women vocational training, 1,182 to commerce education and 10 to the office of Tevta’s Multan district office. — Correspondent
