Man killed in blizzard

CHITRAL, Nov 18: A man died and several were injured when a group of people crossing the Lowari top on foot were caught in a blizzard on Monday night.

More than 20 people had crossed the snow-clad top when they faced the storm. A witness said they started rolling on the snow to save themselves but Zulfiqar Ahmed, a student studying in Lahore and hailing from upper Chitral, died.

#SNOWFALL:# The upper parts of the district received more than two feet of snow and roads to the distant valleys have been closed.

The closure of the Lowari top has resulted in shortage of commodities in the area.

Compensation demanded: The elected representatives from Chitral on Tuesday demanded of the federal government to pay compensation to heirs of Zulfiqar, Our Peshawar Bureau adds.

Speaking at a news conference, MNA Abdul Akbar Khan and MPA Maulana Jahangir, said that the death of the young man was a negligence of the administration.

The lawmakers asked the NWFP government to resume helicopter- service from Dir to Drosh (Chitral). They also asked the federal government to start four PIA flights per day for Chitral during winter season.
