RAWALPINDI, Nov 18: A 17-year-old girl, who was critically burnt after being doused with acid, is in critical condition at the surgical ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

Somi Khalid, a college student of Terbala (Ghazi), sustained 90 per cent burn injuries, when a boy, identified as Faisal, allegedly tied her with a rope and doused her with acid.

According to her mother and other relatives, Faisal wanted to marry Somi, but her parents accepted another proposal for their daughter which annoyed him.

The victim, who, according to doctors, has grim hopes of survival, is still unable to record her statement. “She can move her head, but cannot utter a single word,” a doctor said.

The incident was brought into the notice of Terbala police who have registered a case against the accused, who is yet to be arrested.

A Reporter adds: A woman, who was allegedly burnt by her father-in-law on Wednesday last, died here at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday night, the hospital authorities said.

Noreen Bibi, 26, wife of Rashid Shah, suffered burn injuries when her father-in-law, Sadique Shah, had allegedly set her on fire at his house at G-11/3, the police said.

The body of the deceased was handed over to her relatives after autopsy.

Earlier, the mother of the deceased, Taj Bibi, lodged an FIR with Golra police, regarding the incident.
