24 Okara tenants remanded into judicial custody

LAHORE: At least 24 tenants arrested from Okara military farms were produced before an anti-terrorism court here on Thursday.

They were taken into custody under three different cases registered by as many police stations in the same offence. The accused included two women peasants and as many students.

The court remanded the accused into judicial custody instead of to the police.

Meanwhile, a group of protesters claiming to be Okara tenants staged a demonstration on The Mall against the farmers who were demanding ownership rights for the farm lands.

Anjuman Mazareen Punjab spokesman Nur Nabi alleged that the protesters were, in fact, employees of the farm administration and of the allottees of the farm land sent to the provincial capital on the direction of the Okara police.
