NEW DELHI, Nov 15: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent an itinerary comprising three Tests and seven one-day internationals to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for February-March tour of Pakistan.
The proposed itinerary did not include the venues, which will only be finalised after BCCI approves dates of the matches and duration of the tour.
Indian team will return from its Australia tour in mid-February and BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya wants the players to have at least a 10-day rest period before the series with Pakistan.
Originally, only three Tests and an equal number of one-dayers were scheduled, but the PCB, aware of great demand for Indian team in its country, wants to cash in on the opportunity.
PCB is keen on an extended tour also because it has lost several million dollars, since the 9/11 attacks in the U.S., due to various countries’ refusal to play in Pakistan for security reasons.
If BCCI accepts the proposed itinerary, it will have two options - either to charge $25,000 per additional one-day international, as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), or go for reciprocity.
Reciprocity means that if the touring Indian team agrees to play additional matches in a country, that country will also have to play same number of extra matches when it tours India.
Since the BCCI generally practices reciprocity, it is unlikely that it will deviate from it in Pakistan’s case, pointed out a BCCI official.
India has not toured Pakistan since 1997, when it played three one-dayers, and has not played a Test series there since 1989.
The Indian government had banned one-to-one matches with Pakistan due to tensions.
But the government recently announced restoration of sporting ties as part of a bigger package to normalise relations with Pakistan.—PPI
