LAHORE, Nov 15: Relaxation of ban on kite-flying in the city on Basant is under active consideration.
This was stated by Punjab Chief Secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa while presiding over a high-level meeting held here on Saturday to consider arrangements for the Spring Festival.
He, however, remarked that it would be better for people to fly kites in parks and open spaces instead of their houses.
The government, he said, might designate parks and open places for flying kites on Basant/Spring Festival in February next to eliminate risk of power tripping due to use of metal wire and injuries to people by the thread of stray kites.
Meanwhile, the officials decided to make the Spring Festival 2004 a colourful event for the tourists visiting the provincial metropolis, by organizing a variety of cultural programmes.
The meeting was attended among others by the provincial information and education secretaries, PTDC managing director, DCO, PHA DG and Lesco chief executive.

Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Officer (regulation) imposed Rs100,000 fines on butchers found selling mutton and beef at exorbitant rates in Rajgarh.
Meanwhile, town Nazim Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan inspected the Ramazan Bazaars at Shadamn, Gulshan-i-Ravi, Makkah Colony and Islampura along with councillors and town officials.
QUACKERY: The City District Government is carrying out a survey in the provincial metropolis for locating the business centres of quacks, magicians, self-styled spiritual healers and sex specialists for a crackdown on them in the near future.
Executive District Officer (health) Dr Abdul Qayyum told this reporter that the survey was being conducted on the order of District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood for winding up the unlawful business of quacks for protecting the people against their machinations.
He said action could be taken against quacks and magicians under the provisions of the Punjab Local Government Ordinance, Drug Act, and the law relating to prescription of Allopathic medicines.
The plan for action against the quacks would be drawn after completion of the ongoing survey.
