People asked to complain about corruption

MUZAFFARABAD: In its efforts to eradicate corruption, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) anti corruption department has urged people to file complaints about corruption.

“People grumble about corruption at private discussions and in press statements but they don’t submit applications under the law to the anti-corruption department so it can be dealt with,” said Farooq Ahmed Awan, director general of the AJK anti corruption department during a conversation with journalists on Thursday.

“I request people to come forward and inform us about acts of corruption to help us fight this menace,” he added.

Mr Awan said complaints should be registered against those government employees who are involved in bribery, tempering, misuse of power, bogus inductions in disregard of merit and those with fake academic credentials.

Applications can be sent directly to the anti corruption department in the district headquarters complex in Muzaffarabad or to any of its circle offices in Mirpur and Rawalkot, he said.

“People can also leave their applications in the complaint boxes that have been placed in the offices of all deputy commissioners”, he added.

The DG said that the anti-corruption department is discharging its duties in accordance with its statutory jurisdiction and that amendments to the existing law and rules had been proposed to the government with a view to empowering the department so it can better deal with offenders.
