Teenage girl gang-raped, poisoned in Muzaffarabad

MUZAFFARABAD: A teenage girl was gang-raped and later poisoned by a group of men in a village here, police said Monday.

"Six men kidnapped the 18-year-old survivor and took her to a deserted area in Rawani, where they subjected her to gang rape," said Station House Officer (SHO) City Police Station Pervez Hameed.

After subjecting her to gang-rape, the attackers then poisoned the girl and abandoned her, thinking they had been successful in their attempt to kill the victim.

The girl managed to survive and residents discovered her in an unconscious state. Her parents then brought the survivor to Combined Military Hospital Muzaffarabad.

After spending three days at the hospital, the rape survivor gained consciousness to describe the ordeal, said SHO Hameed.

"After the girl described the incident, we took action and arrested five suspects," he said.

According to police, the survivor works in a boutique. She has five sisters, and no brothers.

Cases were registered against the five suspects arrested by city police on the charge of rape, attempted murder and poisoning. The men were remanded into police custody until March 23.

Earlier in January this year, a group of men gang-raped a teenage girl after kidnapping and drugging her in a Lahore guest house.
