MANSEHRA, Nov 11: A customs squad foiled an attempt to smuggle Chinese goods worth millions of rupees to Rawalpindi on Monday night.
Sources said Assistant Collector Customs Hazara division Arshad Khan received information that Ziaul Haq, a resident of Gilgit, was trying to smuggle non-customs duty paid Chinese goods to Rawalpindi via Muzaffarabad on three trucks.
The assistant collector constituted a team, comprising Superintendent Zamurd Khan and inspectors Shahid Khan, Khalid Beg and Javid Khan, that intercepted the three trucks (RIR-1310, C-1031 and C-1397) near Gari Habibullah.
A search of three vehicles yielded a huge quantity of spare parts of different machinery, water-pumping machines, 60 bags of betel-nuts, vibration pipes, sports shoes, hosiery items, cosmetics and miscellaneous articles worth over Rs20 million. Later these goods were unloaded at the customs warehouse in Mansehra.
