PESHAWAR, Nov 11: The Pakistan Muslim League-Q has urged opposition parties in parliament to accept the Legal Framework Order (LFO).

Speaking at a news conference here at the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday PML-Q senior vice-president Nisar Mohammad Khan said last year opposition parties registered themselves under the LFO to contest the general elections, but were now opposing it.

He wondered what was the political stance of opposition parties who acted under the LFO and were now against it. It was not a just demand because the very same opposition parties had accepted former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as chief martial law administrator under Yahya Khan’s LFO, he added.

Mr Khan said that only three institutions, the PML, Pakistan armed forces and the judiciary could help the country prosper.

He said it would be unwise to malign the army bearing in mind the Indian threat to Pakistan.

He said India was Pakistan’s permanent enemy and had never recognized Pakistan as a sovereign country.

Mr Khan said all PML factions were united under the leadership of Chaudhry Shujat Hussain.

He refuted the allegations levelled by Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal secretary-general Maulana Fazalur Rehman against the prime minister and PML chief Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and claimed that both were ‘genuine and powerful’ leaders. He also praised the judiciary’s role which, according to him, had saved the country from a deep crisis.

He said his party wanted to replace the name of the Frontier province with that of late Abdul Qayyum Khan, the very first chief minister of the NWFP and added that the PML was ready to hold a referendum on the issue.
