LAHORE, Nov 10: The Punjab government has ordered a survey of crossings with heavy traffic load to construct underpasses and flyovers.
Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi told reporters after visiting the under-construction The Mall underpass on Monday that Lakshami, Regal, GPO and Azadi chowks were the busiest crossings in the city.
He said underpasses and flyovers would ease traffic and help reduce pollution.
He said such projects would also be initiated in the other big cities like Rawalpindi and Multan and all these schemes would be completed within three months after the commencement of the work on them.
About the performance of the Punjab Assembly during its first parliamentary year, the leader of the house said he was not pessimistic about it though, he admitted, it needed improvement.
Criticizing the opposition for its attempts to raise “non-issues” in the house, he said masses were the better judge to decide whether the province had been put on the road to economic development or not.
About price hike during Ramazan, Mr Elahi said he himself was monitoring the prices daily to maintain them at reasonable level. He warned that strict action would be taken against those found indulging in profiteering, hoarding and blackmarketing.
He said during his recent visit to Germany he had held meetings with the German Development Bank (KFW) as its authorities had expressed their willingness to restore the financial assistance to the province withheld during the last political era.
He held the bureaucracy responsible for the suspension of the assistance and promised that an inquiry would be initiated and action would be taken against the officials found guilty.
