PESHAWAR, Nov 10: The present regional geo-political situation, specially challenges confronting Pakistan, calls for national cohesion and collective efforts to put the country on the path of progress and prosperity besides protecting it from threats, says NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah.

He said this while talking with a 15-member delegation of the Pakistan Muslim League led by senior vice-president Nisar Mohammad Khan, which called on him here at the Governor’s House on Monday.

The governor said that political parties enjoyed an important position in a democratic setup, adding that besides protecting and promoting democratic norms, they were also supposed to act as watchdogs keeping a check on the working of the government machinery.

Referring to the issues raised by the delegation, the governor said that efforts were being made for their resolution.

Earlier, the delegation, comprising Mauzam Butt, Shaukat Khan, Mohammad Habib, Malik Riaz and Shaukat Shah, informed the governor about certain problems, particularly regarding the law and order situation. They urged him to take appropriate steps in that regard.
