LAHORE, Nov 9: Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Husain Ahmad has said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal would have no further dialogue with the government on the Legal Framework Order.
Speaking at a meeting held on Iqbal Day at Alhamra on Sunday, he said: “Now we are waiting for the government to move a constitutional amendment bill in the National Assembly.”
The MMA parliamentary leader in the National Assembly hoped that all parliamentary parties would participate in the debate on the constitutional bill.
He, however, warned that the opposition would not accept any government scheme to complete the two-thirds majority by hiring the MNAs to get the bill passed.
Parliament was the only competent institution to refuse, amend or accept the LFO as a part of the Constitution. The JI Amir had made it clear in his very first speech in the National Assembly that he did not accept the LFO.
Certain provisions like the reduction in the voters age and increase in the number of reserved seats for minorities in the LFO were uncontroversial and could be accepted. The opposition would not accept any measure against the sovereignty of parliament.
PPP’s MNA Aitzaz Ahsan said that the opposition was against the LFO because it opposed the supremacy of the army and wanted the sovereignty of the people to restore.
He said the people could not allow any opportunist to take over and rule over them though with the permission of a court of law.
