Cell set up to monitor reforms at grassroots level

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has established a cell in the local government election and rural development department (LGE&RDD) to manage and monitor reforms initiatives to improve governance at the grassroots level.

It is to be mentioned here that a large number of development partners and donors are engaged with the LGE&RDD collaborating in various reforms initiatives pertaining to the local governance areas.

A number of these reforms initiatives are already midway, while some are being launched in different areas of the local government department at various levels and tiers by development partners, including UNDP, Unicef, EU, USAID, DFID, and GIZ.

According to a notification, the Reforms Management Cell (RMC) has been set up to streamline these interventions and make the same more effective and visible. The RMC would coordinate among the development partners and LGE&RDD to direct these interventions towards the service of the beneficiaries of the local government department.

Serving as a focal point for coordination with development partners, the RMC would also ensure wider publicity to different reforms initiatives through different media as a top priority of the provincial government.
