KARACHI, Nov 7: The Sindh High Court on Friday issued notices to the state law officer, the DCO, the DO revenue Thatta and others for November 13, 2003 on a petition filed against stoppage of trucks carrying Slika sand.
The bench comprising Justice Zahid Kurban Alvi and Justice Gulzar Ahmed was hearing the petition of Ghulam Qadir, a contractor for collection of mines.
It was submitted that the mineral development department had granted a lease to the petitioner for excavation of Slika sand from Goth Jafar Jamadar, district Thatta, near THE Gharo police station, and he was doing business as per the licence given him in that regard.
He stated that 144 Cr.P.C was imposed by the Zila Nazim Thatta prohibiting lifting of Rati Bajri, Slika sand and ordinary clay in the entire district.
He maintained Slika sand was lifted from an area earmarked for mining of Slika sand, and it was a mineral used in manufacture of iron. The petitioner stated he had a contract for supply of sand to the Pakistan Steel Mills, and the act of the Zila Nazim had rendered him unable to complete his task.—PPI
