Kohat district council approves Rs330m budget

KOHAT: The district council, Kohat, on Thursday unanimously approved the developmental and non-developmental budget for the current fiscal year (2015-16) with a total outlay of over Rs330 million.

The budget was presented by district nazim Maulana Niaz Mohammad, while the session was chaired by naib nazim Abdur Rasheed at the district council hall.

In the budget, Rs5.5 million has been set aside for education, Rs5.5m million for communication, Rs27.5 million for health, Rs13.7 million for agriculture, Rs13.7 million for women welfare and Rs13 million for the youth and sports sector.

Besides this, Rs68.7 million has been placed at the disposal of the district government as discretionary funds.


Nazim claims funds allocated fairly


Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Niaz said that the funds had been equally distributed among the government and opposition councillors and those elected on reserved seats as he wanted to take the house along to serve the cause of development of Kohat.

BROTHERS KILLED: Two brothers were gunned down over a dispute with the contractor of their house in Junglekhel here on Thursday. SHO Ghulam Murtaza said that the contractor, Abdullah, and Ilyas, sons of Habibullah and Saadullah respectively, allegedly opened fire on Abideen, 31, and Hamid Zulfiqar, 25, in Junglekhel, killing them on the spot.

The police later arrested Abdullah and Ilyas. Father of the deceased told police that contractor Abdullah had constructed their house which developed cracks after sometime over which a dispute was going on between him (contractor) and his sons for repayment.

The police have registered an FIR against the accused.

Meanwhile, the Kohat police arrested 39 suspects and three illegally residing Afghan nationals besides four unregistered tenants during a search operation here on Thursday.

The police also booked the district education officer, Kohat, over poor security of a government high school in the cantonment limits. They arrested the official and registered a case against him in the cantonment police station.

HEALTH SCHEME: The district administration of Kohat on Thursday launched the ‘Sehat Sahulat Card’ facility for the deserving poor who could not afford their medical treatment.

Chairing a meeting at his office, deputy commissioner Zahir Shah said that any poor citizen claiming the insurance should fill the ‘Sehat Sahulat Card’ application on Rs30 denomination stamp paper and submit it to his office. He also nominated assistant commissioner, Kohat, Mohammad Umair as the focal person for looking after all affairs of the scheme in the district.
