ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s investment profile has improved on the back of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flourishing economy and better law and order across the country, Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday.
In a meeting with a delegation of Abraaj Group at the ministry’s office, he said, “Under Vision-2025, we are restructuring portfolio of our productive sectors on cluster-based approach to transform agriculture, industry and mineral sectors.”
He said that the world’s perception about Pakistan had changed drastically in 2015 from 2013. “The world now recognises Pakistan as next emerging success story.”
He said the government was launching ‘Brand Pakistan’ campaign to capitalise on this changed perception. “We have also declared 2016 as the year of productivity, quality and innovation to become competitive on the international market. We are mobilising the indigenous resources to develop an export thrust for the economy”.
He also highlighted Vision-2025, which lays out a roadmap for taking the country into top 25 economies. “The target is ambitious but achievable if the government, private sector and academia synergise their efforts to achieve eight per cent growth rate annually in next 10 years,” he stated.
The minister proposed K-Electric, a subsidiary of Abraaj Group, to organise a seminar by inviting CEOs of all the distribution companies to discuss the challenges in upgrading transmission and distribution system.
