LAHORE, Nov 5: ARD legislators’ resignations from the National Assembly standing committees aim at blackmailing the government which also shows opposition’s lack of interest in the legislative business, a PML-Q leader says.
Senator Kamil Ali Agha, who is also the Punjab chief minister’s chief coordinator, said a difference of opinion was a part of the democratic process, but it should not be used as a tool to bulldoze the institutions.
He said when legislators had a full liberty to make demands or express reservations on various issues on the floor of the house, there was no justification left for them to ‘set stages’ outside parliament.
He said at times the opposition made demands about the ‘fugitive’ leaders and then of the LFO. These days they were talking of Zardari and Javed Hashmi. He said the ARD must let the nation know what kind of the democratic system it wanted to function.
Meanwhile, provincial Agriculture Minister Arshad Khan Lodhi said the government performance during its first year in office was appreciable, worth emulation by other provinces.
In a statement, he said a record legislation had been enacted and steps of far-reaching consequences taken in the fields of agriculture and education.
