LAHORE, Nov 5: Robbers on Wednesday made off with cash, jewellery and valuables worth Rs2 million from different parts of the city.
Four gunmen stormed into the house of Sheikh Iqbal on the Ravi Road. They thrashed some of the family members when they put up resistance and tied them with ropes. The miscreants collected cash, gold ornaments and prize bonds worth Rs1.5 million and escaped with the booty.
Three armed men burst into the house of Abdul Hameed in block A of Faisal Town and took away cash, gold jewellery and valuables worth over Rs500,000.
Two gunmen held Tanvir in his grocery in Gulshan-i-Ravi and escaped with cash, phone cards and cell phones worth Rs30,000.
suicide: A youth and a woman allegedly committed suicide in the city on Wednesday.
Quoting family, the police said Bilqees Bibi (35) had exchanged heated arguments with her mother-in-law at China Scheme in Gujjarpura. She then locked herself in her room and set herself afire.
The family with the help of neighbours broke open the door and retrieved the woman in critical condition. She was admitted to the Mayo Hospital where she died.
She has left behind a widower and four children. Her body was returned to the family without autopsy.
Imran (20) of Shahdara Town allegedly took poison after his father Rafique scolded him for wasting time with friends. He was rushed to hospital where he perished. His body was handed over to the family without autopsy.
KIDNAP: Five gunmen allegedly kidnapped a retired major from Defence late on Wednesday night.
Police claimed the kidnap was the outcome of a money dispute between two parties in which the retired army officer had acted as mediator.
They said Asif and Islam had a money dispute. Maj Wasim Javed (retired), being a friend of Islam, had tried to settle the dispute.
On failing to achieve his goal, Asif, with the help of four unidentified men, kidnapped Maj Wasim and Islam form outside a bank in the locality.
Police claimed that the accused set free Islam but took away Maj Wasim with them.
