LAHORE, Nov 5: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has ordered an immediate crackdown on quacks, magicians and fake spiritual healers engaged in depriving the people of their hard-earned money.

The Nazim issued the orders while presiding over a meeting here on Wednesday.

He said that people should be educated about the machinations of the quacks and special teams consisting of public representatives, drug inspectors and police officials should be constituted at town level to raid and seal their shops and centres.

The meeting decided to approach the federal government for amendment to Section 9 of the Allopathic Drug System Ordinance 1962 to provide for stern action against the quacks.

It was also decided to approach the newspapers for discontinuing publication of the immoral advertisements of the quacks in the larger public interest.

The Nazim was informed that the City District Government’s health department officials had sealed the shops of 80 quacks besides submitting 24 cases for trial in the courts of judicial magistrates during this year.
