SAUTA: The Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association has said the vice-chancellor and not the faculty is responsible for poor admissions to the university.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, SAUTA president Ali Nawaz Leghari said an official document presented by the vice-chancellor at the senate meeting held on Oct 08 was a proof of the fact.

He said according to the document, 939 students had sought admission in 1992, 937 in 1993, 1,041 in 1994, 1,196 in 1995, 1,532 in 1997, 1,806 in 1998, 928 in 2000, 391 in 2001 and 228 in 2002.

He said the number of candidates seeking admissions started declining after the appointment of vice-chancellor Dr Bashir Ahmad Chandio in 1999.

Mr Leghari said the faculty and the syllabus was the same but due to the centralization of powers and the compartmentalization of the university by the vice-chancellor was now at the verge of collapse.

He did not agree with the vice-chancellor that the causes of poor admissions were poverty and low marketability as he said 5,877 candidates had appeared in the entry test at the University of Sindh against 3,913 seats and less number of graduates of the university were jobless when compared to other universities of the area.

He demanded removal of the vice-chancellor.
