Bab-i-Peshawar flyover opens for traffic

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and senior provincial minister Inayatullah jointly inaugurated the Bab-i-Peshawar flyover on Monday. The ceremony was attended by PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirjaul Haq.

Bab-i-Peshawar flyover is the country’s second multi-level flyover — the first was built in Karachi.

The project was completed in record five-month time at a cost of Rs1.72 billion. The new flyover would regulate traffic flow on Pak-Afghan highway.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister congratulated the people of Peshawar over the inauguration of the gigantic flyover and said “we have started to revive the lost glory of the provincial capital”.

Pervez Khattak said KP government has started Rs29 billion worth mega projects in the provincial capital under the Peshawar uplift and beautification plan.

The provincial government will fulfil the promise of making 'Peshawar Clean and Green' under a comprehensive and well coordinated corruption free system, he added.

To lessen the traffic burden on the inter city roads, the chief minister said all the missing links would be constructed. “Work on building a zoo in Peshawar will also commence shortly,” he told the audience.

He also recounted the achievements of his government during the last two-and-a-half years and said that all kind of encroachments have been removed without succumbing to any pressure.

He urged the federal government to provide the funds pledged by it for the development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“The federal government is delaying the provision of funds for the projects in KP, including the Takhtbai flyover,” the chief minister complained.

Later, the chief minister unveiled the plaque among thunderous applause by the people and later drove on the flyover.
