SUKKUR, Nov 2: Senator Nisar A. Memon has stressed the need for a consensus on national issues, including that of water reservoirs, and said the parliamentary committee on water will achieve this objective without hurting the interests of any province.

He said this while speaking at a press conference at the residence of Federal Railways Minister Ghaus Bux Mahar in Wazirabad here on Sunday.

Mr Memon said the 1991 water accord should be implemented in letter and spirit. He also backed Sindh’s stand on the issue of water flow downstream Kotri.

He said there was a consensus among the provinces on building more water reservoirs but a decision had to be made where they should be built.

He said his three-day visit to Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Naushahro Feroze and Sukkur districts was aimed at holding discussions with party office-bearers and activists.

He said Sindh Minister Altaf Unnar had organized a party activists’ meeting in Larkana, Federal Minister Ghaus Mahar in Shikarpur and Ali Asghar Panhwar in Jacobabad.

Our Shikarpur correspondent adds: Speaking at a press conference at the press club here on Sunday, Senator Memon said the united PML was working for the welfare of the masses and integrity of the country.

Mr Memon said President Gen Pervez Musharraf was taking steps to improve the socio-economic conditions of the country and the standard of life of the people.

Answering a question regarding construction of the Kalabagh dam, he said no decision would be supported against the interests of Sindh.

Senator Memon also presided over a meeting of local leaders and activists of the PML (united) at the residence of Federal Railways Minister Ghaus Mahar here on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by Ghaus Mahar, Altaf Unnar, Hussain Shah, MPA Faiz Mohammad Mahar, Shahabuddin Shah, Dhani Bux Marfani, Najaf Khan Kamario, Jai Jai Veshnoo and other party leaders.
