DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 1: As many as 21 students of the district Technology College were set free by police on Saturday on a bail granted to them by judicial magistrate Mian Muhammad Arshad Anjum.

Although the students were granted bail on Friday, they could not be released the same day because of incomplete documentation.

The civil judge, however, directed the police to shift one student to the central jail as he was booked under section 337-A-II.

Reports said the students of the college had been continually protesting since September increase in tuition fees by the district coordination officer, who was the chairman of its board of governors constituted from 1996 to 1999.

Of the 700 students, around 300 have been reportedly booked by the Saddar police since September for protesting against the fee issue. However, their demand has yet to be met.

The DCO had enhanced the fees of the Technology College and the Divisional Public School and College, setting a stage for a series of protest demonstrations by the students.

It is learnt that the students of other local colleges are set to join the affected college’s strength in few days to protest.

The Saddar police had arrested 22 students of the college the other day for creating lawlessness during their protest demonstration.

On Friday, the police produced them before the judicial magistrate, who ordered release of 21 of them. He also directed the police to shift Hafiz Jehangir to the central jail on the charge of attacking a policeman.
