HYDERABAD, Oct 31: Pre-entry test for admission to the University of Sindh for the academic session 2004 for all disciplines will be conducted at the Dr Baloch Model School (Old Campus) on Nov 2.
The university authorities on Friday finalized all arrangements to conduct the pre-entry test and issued admit cards to all concerned candidates appearing in the test.
The test will be conducted in two shifts in 58 blocks, which have been setup by the university. The first shift will start at 9am while second at 12 noon.
About 6000 boys and girls are appearing in the pre-entry test for admission to bachelors classes while last year 4444 candidates appeared in the pre-entry test.
Candidates have been advised to bring with them their admit cards on the pre-entry test day while no book, copy, pen or purse will be allowed in the examination centre. The candidates who have not still collected their admit cards have been advised to collect their cards from counters established by the directorate of admissions at the Old Campus Hyderabad upto Nov 1 at 9am.
LECTURE: In connection with series of popular lectures arranged by the Dr A Qazi Institute of Chemistry, University of Sindh, the second lecture was delivered by Prof Dr Sikandar Memon on “pro-oxidants antioxidants and their role in balance pathogenic diseases” on Friday.
Vice-chancellor Sindh University Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided while a large number of scholars and students attended the lecture.
The scholar said disturbance in the balance between pro- oxidants and anti-oxidants in favour of pro-oxidants was the cause of oxidation of nucleic acid, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids and added that these were constituents of the cell.
He said changes in the structure of macromolecules caused different diseases. He said diseases were cardiovascular, cancers, diabetes, neurological disorders and track infections and respiratory infections.
He said anti-oxidants, vitamin-A, vitamin-C, vitamin-E and proteins having sulphur and amino acids were suggested to avoid risk factors of the large number of diseases caused by the oxidative stress produced by the disbalance between the anti-oxidants and pro-oxidants in favour of pro-oxidants.
The vice-chancellor in his presidential remarks appreciated the lecture of the scholar. He said scholars work could benefit common people in creating awareness. He hoped other scholars would also demonstrate their expertise with full preparation so that students and teachers could benefit from it.
Dr Mohammad Yar Khuhawar, Dr Aftab Qureshi, Dr Zafar Tanwari, Dr Ghulam Ali Memon and others also expressed their views on the occasion.
LUMHS: The additional controller of examinations Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences has announced the schedule of practical and viva voce examination of ENT subject of final professional MBBS annual examination 2003 for LUMHS candidates.
The practical and viva voce examination will start with effect from Nov 12 to Nov 15. He announced revision of classes of ENT subject have also been arranged at city lecture hall on Nov 10 for students having seat No1 to 225 and on Nov 11 for students of seat No226 onwards at 10am.
GTTC: The principal government technical training centre Kotri, Abdul Hafeez Abro notified on Friday that admissions for one year and two year training courses for computer operators and in other disciplines of industrial electronics, electric, civil and mechanical drafting, turner, general fitter, plumbing, welding and furniture manufacturing would start from Nov 1, for the morning and evening shifts of 2004 session.
He said admission forms could be obtained from the Kotri centre, World Architectural Services, circular building and Mashaallah Computers near Wapda hospital unit No9 Latifabad.
