Aqeel, Sara crowned champions

ISLAMABAD: Aqeel Khan and Sara Mansoor clinched men’s and women’s singles titles respectively of the Subh-e-Nau National Tennis Championship at the PTF Complex on Saturday.

Sara Mansoor’s opponent Sara Mahboob played well in the first set despite losing at 4-6 but could not maintain her rhythm in the second set and had to retire from the match due to a shoulder injury.

The winner received Rs50,000 as prize money while her opponent received Rs25,000.

Aqeel added yet another feather in his cap as he clinched the men’s title. He has been Pakistan’s number one for more than 15 years now.

The winner proved his experience and skill over young Ahmed Chaudhry and thrashed him 6-2, 6-2.

Aqeel also received Rs50,000 in prize money.

In the men’s doubles final, the pair of Yasir Khan and Shahzad Khan overcame Aqeel Khan and Ahmed Chaudhry 6-1, 6-4.

The winners pocketed Rs20,000 while the runners-up got Rs12,000.

M. Muzammil won boys’ U-18 title with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-3 victory over Aman Atique.

Aman’s performance during the tournament remained excellent, however, he could not end up on winning note. Muzammil received Rs12,000.

Hamza bin Rehan could not finish his brilliant run in the tournament as a winner and lost to Aqib Umer in a well-contested match which lasted for more than two hours. The scores were 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
