Gul Hameed wins 60-plus title at ITF Seniors

KARACHI: Senior pro Gul Hameed overcame a stiff challenge from Sabih Wali to win the 60-plus title here at the 24th Karachi Club Pakistan ITF Senior World Ranking Tennis Champoinship on Thursday.

Both players displayed superb serve and volley game in a well-contested final but Gul evntually emerged taller, winning 6-7, 7-5, 10-8 (7-5).

In the 45-plus singles semi-final, Mirza Raza beat Imran Siddiqui who retired after losing the first set 6-3.

In the doubles semi-finals, former Pakistan player Asad Ali Bhagat and Reza Mirza outplayed the pair of Omair Mateen andd Tariq Allahwala 6-0,-6-3.

Results:

45 Plus singles (semi-final): Mirza Raza bt Imran Ahmed Siddique 6-3—Imran retired.

60 Plus singles (final): Gul Hameed bt Sabih Wali 6-7, 7-5, 10-8 (7-5).

35 Plus doubles (semi-finals): Asad Bhagat-Reza Ali Mirza bt Omair Mateen-Tariq Allahwala 6-0, 6-3.

55 plus doubles (round-robin): Altaf Hussain-Zahid Hussain bt Naresh Chand Khatri (India)-Akber Khan 6-0, 6-0; Sabi Wali-Ronie Dubash bt Karim Gul-Zafar 6-2, 3-6, 11-9; Gul Hameed-Razi Nawab bt Naresh Chand Khatri (India)-Akber Hayat Khan 6-0, 6-2.

U-13 (final): M Dada bt Farazan Ahmed 6-2, 6-4.

U-11 (final): M Yahya bt Ashar Azfar 8-2.

U-17 (final): Marib Malik bt Nazif Ahmed 6-3, 6-4.
